Roof 3D model
As with all projects health and safety is a top priority. When it comes to surveys of structures especially a roof there are loads of protocols put in place to make it as safe as possible to do so. When it comes to using drones to carry out this work you remove so many dangers to workers, because of this 3D roof models have become very popular. Different types of surveys can be carried out on the roof structure offering a range of outputs as well as the ability to survey areas not usually able to by a person.
To create a 3D model of the roof a drone set up to take photos is used (this method is called photogrammetry) this data is collected by taking a series of photos across the structure at various heights and angles. The data sets are then processed and merged together to create a 3D roof model. Depending on the desired outcome the files can be created in different file formats.
This method of survey will create an accurate output of the roof. When collecting the photos the data can be tied to the real world; made globally accurate by also surveying in ground control points.
